Bingeroll is a small app for tracking the anime, movies and TV you watch and sharing that with friends. It has no ads, sells no data, contains no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs, and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

What we store

  • Your account. Your e-mail address and sign-in details, or the account identifier your chosen sign-in provider (Apple, Google or Discord) gives us.
  • Your profile. Username, display name, bio, and the avatar image address your sign-in provider supplies, if any. Profiles are public: anyone with the app or the website can see them.
  • Your library and activity. The titles you track, their status, episode progress and your ratings, the people you follow, and the activity feed built from them. These are public too — there are no private accounts yet.
  • MyAnimeList imports. If you import from MyAnimeList, the MyAnimeList username you entered and the list of titles we could not match automatically, so you can review them later.
  • Search memory. When you search, we keep the normalized search text and the matching titles so the next person searching the same thing gets an instant answer. The matches are refreshed after about a week, but the record itself is not deleted on a fixed schedule. It is not linked to your account.

Who processes it

Your data lives with Supabase (our database, sign-in and server functions). The website is hosted by Vercel. Test builds of the app are distributed through Apple TestFlight. If you sign in with Apple, Google or Discord, that provider handles the sign-in.

Title information and searches

Title details come from TMDB (movies and TV), AniList (anime) and, when AniList is unavailable, Jikan (a MyAnimeList data service). When you search for something we have not seen before, our server sends the search text — never your account details — to these services. Answers are then served from our own copy.

A MyAnimeList import reads your public MyAnimeList list from myanimelist.net using the username you enter. We never ask for your MyAnimeList password.

Posters and images load from the image servers of TMDB, AniList and MyAnimeList, and profile pictures load from wherever the sign-in provider that supplied them hosts them (for example Google or Discord). On the website some images are fetched through our host, Vercel, instead. When a title's page shows a trailer, its thumbnail loads from YouTube's image server (i.ytimg.com); the trailer video itself loads from YouTube only when you tap to play it. A service that serves an image or trailer to you directly can see your device's IP address when that happens.

Model-assisted catalog decisions

We are evaluating a decision model, Jev, provided by TypeSafe AI, Inc., to help with catalog questions such as "are these two entries the same season?" or "which of these titles is the one in your MyAnimeList list?". It never changes what you track, never adds anything to your library, and never replaces a match you have to confirm yourself.

Today, nothing about you or your activity is sent to TypeSafe. It is switched off for searches and for MyAnimeList import suggestions. The suggestions you may see when reviewing an import ("Linked by MyAnimeList ID", "Same title and year") are worked out from our own catalog, without any model.

If it is ever turned on for searches or import suggestions, TypeSafe would receive only:

  • Search: the text of a new, blended search (lower-cased, at most 40 characters). Searches that look like an e-mail address, a web address, a phone number, a handle or long free text are never sent.
  • Import suggestions: the title, year, format and episode count of one MyAnimeList entry you are reviewing, and the same public details of up to eight candidate titles from our catalog.

It would never receive your account, username, e-mail, user or import identifiers, statuses, scores, progress, your library or your profile. TypeSafe says it does not train models on this input; it keeps it for as long as it considers reasonably necessary, with no fixed period, and deletes it on request. We will update this page and our App Store privacy details before any of this is switched on.

Cookies and on-device storage

The website uses cookies only to keep you signed in, and your browser's local storage for a few display preferences. The app keeps your sign-in session and a few preferences, such as your theme, on your device.

Your choices

You can edit your profile and remove titles from your library at any time. Because profiles and libraries are public, only add what you are happy for others to see. To delete your account and everything linked to it, contact the Bingeroll developer (the person who invited you to the beta) and it will be removed.
